Electricity prices were hiked through a fast-tracked process with bulk prices rising by 19.85 percent. The new rates will take effect from June. According to the BERC order, the average wholesale electricity tariff has been increased from Tk 7.00 per unit to Tk 8.39 per unit. At the retail level, the average tariff has risen from Tk 9.11 per unit to Tk 10.63 per unit.

After three days, members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) moved a group of 10 to 12 people including women and children, from the zero line along the Sadipur border in Benapole on Wednesday morning (Jun. 3). They had been stranded there for several days amid an alleged 'push-in' attempt into Bangladesh. Following their removal, additional BGB personnel deployed in the area were also withdrawn and regular border patrols resumed, said Lieutenant Colonel Golam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan, commanding officer of the Jashore-49 BGB Battalion.

Their issue had been a source of tension between BGB and BSF along the Sadipur border since Sunday (May 31), with Bangladeshi authorities describing an attempt "to push people into Bangladesh without following established procedures". BSF had attempted to force them into Bangladesh, claiming they were Bangladeshi nationals. However, Bangladeshi border authorities refused to accept them, citing the absence of credible documents or information confirming their Bangladeshi citizenship. BGB maintained that no individual would be allowed to enter Bangladesh without proper verification.

At least four Bangladeshi nationals were among those injured in a drone attack on the Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, according to the Bangladesh Embassy there. The injured Bangladeshis were admitted to Farwaniya Hospital, while the embassy is closely monitoring their condition, said an emergency statement signed by Mohammad Moniruzzaman, counsellor (Political) and head of chancery. One person was killed and several other foreign nationals were also injured in the incident.

The embassy advised Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait not to photograph or record videos of the scene, particularly of rocket or drone attacks and interceptions, warning that such activities are punishable under Kuwaiti law. It also noted a shortage of stored blood at Kuwait's Central Blood Bank and urged eligible Bangladeshi expatriates to donate blood on an emergency basis. Kuwait's Defence Ministry Spokesperson Brig Gen Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said "a number of hostile drones" targeted Kuwait International Airport, causing significant damage to the passenger building and injuring several people.

The Forest Department imposed a three-month ban (June 1 to August 31) on entry into the Sundarbans to protect biodiversity, wildlife and fishery resources during the breeding season. Under the restriction, fishers, bawalis, moualis, golpata collectors and tourists won't be allowed to enter the forest. The annual closure, enforced since 2021, keeps the forest free from human disturbance during a breeding period for fish, crabs, reptiles, birds and mammals. While environmentalists have welcomed the move as an important conservation measure, thousands of forest-dependent families say the closure threatens their livelihoods.

The tourism sector is also expected to feel the impact. Around 250 vessel owners and 1,500 workers would be affected, along with nearly 12,000 members of around 2,000 families. Authorities were considering alternative employment opportunities and support measures for affected communities, although no formal announcement had been made. Forest officials said monitoring and surveillance would continue throughout the closure period to protect biodiversity and natural resources.
