Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin said the Election Commission is working seriously on containing the misuse of AI (Artificial Intelligence) on digital platforms during the next parliamentary election. The commission has also sought assistance from Canada on preventing the abuse of AI, he told reporters after a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital.

"The AI misuse may be a big threat for us. We've sought their (Canada's) assistance on how to address this issue because Canada had an election last year. So, they had to face such issues as well. We've sought suggestions based on their experiences. We are seriously working on this issue," said the CEC. He also said that he expects a large number of foreign observers this time, but that the EC will not invite those foreign observers who certified the last three general elections as acceptable and credible.

After wrapping up two days of hearings, the International Crimes Tribunal fixed July 10 for passing its order on the framing of charges in a case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two others, over their alleged roles in atrocities committed during the July Uprising. The other two accused are former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, the only one currently in custody.

Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam took part in the hearing for the prosecution and pleaded to frame charges against the three, while state-appointed defence counsel Advocate Amir Hossain argued for discharging Hasina and Kamal. He argued that the incidents in question do not constitute crimes against humanity. He also questioned the tribunal's jurisdiction, saying: "The tribunal was formed to try crimes committed in 1971. There was no war in the country in July and August, so this case cannot be pursued under that legal framework."
