Celebrated photographer Shahidul Alam has been selected for an international award for humanitarian activities. Shahidul Alam would be getting the distinguished Humanitarian Award to be distributed by The Lucie Awards from the Lucie Foundation. The mission of Lucie Foundation is to honour the masters of photography, discover and cultivate emerging talent, and promote an appreciation of photography worldwide.

Shahidul Alam will receive the award formally at the award ceremony to be held on October 28 at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, in New York City. It needs to be mentioned that Shahidul Alam the founder of Drik and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute. The two are instrumental behind the Chobi Mela International Photography Festival, which is the largest photography festival in Asia. The festival is known for drawing in photographic sketches from around the world, many of which are selected for portraying global humanitarian concerns-like migrant, refugee crisis.

Shahidul Alam himself has constructed photographic series like The Best Years of My Life on Bangladeshi migrants in Malaysia. Another series conducted by him named The Birth Pangs of a Nation addresses the humanitarian threat faced after the Liberation War. Alongside a number of other photographers Shahidul has also contributed to this series. n
