Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said there is no problem with religion in Bangladesh and the country maintains religious harmony.

"There is no problem with religion in my country. We have harmony here," he told reporters at his office on Tuesday while responding to a question.

Dr Momen referred to some incidents in other countries that hurt religious harmony. "Why this happens in your country, venom of hatred against another religion?"

The Foreign Minister said the government takes action immediately if anything wrong happens.

Few days ago, Bangladesh strongly condemned the act of burning of the Holy Quran by a far-right extremist group in several cities of Sweden.

Bangladesh believes that the freedom of religion must be upheld and respected and urged all concerned to exercise tolerance and refrain from unwarranted provocation for ensuring communal harmony and peaceful coexistence, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In its annual report released on April 25, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom expressed concerns about the worsening religious freedom conditions in South Asian countries.

During his recent visit to Bangladesh, US Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Rashad Hussain appreciated religious harmony and freedom in Bangladesh, noting that they must not allow those who are trying to divide them and create complexities.

"We're very encouraged to see people from different faith groups are living together peacefully. We want to see religious freedom everywhere in the world," he said.

Referring to the vast majority of people who are living together peacefully, he said, "We must continue to live together peacefully."
