Veteran and promising actors, actresses, filmmakers, directors and social and cultural activists celebrated the National Film Day amid festivity on April 3 at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), Kawran Bazar in the city.
Minister of Information, Muhammad Hasan Mahmud, inaugurated the event with the presence of special guests Convener of National Film Day Celebration Committee, Syed Hasan Imam, actor and Co-Chairman of National Film Day Celebration Committee, Alamgir, President of Bangladesh Film Directors' Association, Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, Information Secretary, Abdul Malek, actor Ilias Kanchan, and Acting Managing Director of BFDC, Laxman Chandra Debnath, among others.
Cholochitro Bachle Shongskriti Bachbe was the slogan for this year. A grand celebration with a cultural programme also took place at BFDC. The government declared April 3 as the National Film Day in 2012. On this day in 1957, country's founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was then serving as a minister of commerce, industry, disaster management and relief, raised the proposal to set up East Pakistan Film Development Corporation raised by in the provincial assembly.
On the occasion of the day, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation organised a two-day event, marking National Film Day, comprising seminar, fair, red carpet reception of stars, exhibition of posters and images and cultural shows at different venues on BFDC premises.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, on the other hand, has organised a four-day celebration programme marking the day. BSA's event, which began on April 3, has been featuring seminar, film screening, poster exhibition, discussion and workshop at different venues of the academy.
