Cosmos Art Echo, the artist talk initiative of Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Atelier71, hosted its ninth session with a special evening titled An Evening with Artist Shishir Bhattacharjee. The programme brought together artists, architects, writers, researchers, and cultural practitioners for a meaningful exchange on art, society, and creative expression.
Renowned for his distinctive visual language and sharp sense of satire, Shishir Bhattacharjee shared reflections on his artistic journey-from his early days in the 1980s to his continued engagement with contemporary themes. Widely known for his political cartoons, he spoke about how humour, irony, and social observation have remained central to his work, even as his practice has expanded into painting and experimental drawing. Through a presentation of selected works from different periods of his career, including pieces from the 1980s and recent years, the audience gained valuable insight into the evolution of his artistic vision.
The session also featured an engaging question-and-answer segment, where Shishir openly discussed his experiences, inspirations, and thoughts on the role of art in society.
Among those present were Mr. Enayetullah Khan, Chairman of Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Atelier71; Asad Latif, Principal Research Fellow of Cosmos Foundation; Nasir Ali Mamun, Ekushey Padak-winning photographer and author; and M. François Chambraud, Director of Alliance Française de Dhaka-alongside artists, architects, writers, and other multidisciplinary personalities.
I feel grateful that this evening reaffirmed Cosmos Art Echo's mission: to create spaces where art can be shared, discussed, and thoughtfully experienced.
Sourav Chowdhury, Artistic Director, Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Atelier71
