Liberation War Museum recently paid tribute to recently demised poet-architect Rabiul Hussain at a memorial programme which was held at the auditorium of Liberation War Museum, Agargaon in the city.

The programme, titled 'Kabi, Sthapati Rabiul Hussain Smaran O Shroddhargha Nibedan', was organised by the museum and featured discussion followed by a cultural tribute show. A documentary, directed by Sujan Majhi on the life and works of Rabiul Hussain was screened.

Thespian Ramendu Majumder, founding trustee board members of Liberation War Museum Sara Zaker and Dr Sarwar Ali, Rabiul Hussain's younger brother Taimur Hussain, Jatiya Kabita Parishad general secretary Tarik Sujat and others spoke at the programme.

One of the prolific architects in the country, Rabiul Hussain designed many residential, institutional and public buildings and architectural structures. He was one of the leading architects of the '70s, an era marked by accomplishments and revolutionary ideas. Outside his career, he served as the president of The Institute of Architects, Bangladesh (IAB) for four terms; served as vice-chairman of ARCASIA (Architects Regional Council of Asia), served as vice-president of CAA (Commonwealth Association of Architects) and served as president of SAARCH ( South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation of Architects). He was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award of Berger Award for Excellence in Architecture.

Rabiul Hussain, emerging as a poet in the 1960s, is a recognized name in Bangladesh's literary circle. His poetry has profoundly documented pains, agonies, weal and woe of human beings, as well as historical and political episodes in our country. His poems are distinguished for their highly expressive and communicative, poignant and symbolic traits. For inspiration, Rabiul veers towards human life and their varied social and cultural aspects, patriotism, and political ups and downs- thus achieved massive admiration from readers and enthusiasts.
