It doesn't matter what the Women's team does, Bangladeshis are freaking loyal to the Men's team. The girls have been moderately successful over the years and the soccer team has shown an upward movement in the FIFA rankings after beating a moderately higher ranked Bahrain 7-0 and a much higher ranked Myanmar 2-1. After defending their South Asian regional title, they didn't stumble at the opportunity to take their game to the next level, by qualifying for the Women's Asia Cup finals, to be held in Australia next year. And there has been a little more reluctant cheering than usual from the crowd.

Thanks to our media which has very little news to offer and the public bored with corruption tales, mob attacks and rape, the cheer is getting louder for the girls but as the recent cricket results show, men are hitting back after the Test match and with great tenacity lost the ODI series 2-1. Congrats to the team and thank the Lord for our low end boring click baiting media.

What the media says

The boys/men have shown far more consistency than the ladies. They have had a losing streak for how long people have forgotten and despite the win in the middle of last week, they created a world record by going from 100/2 to 105 for 8.

It's rumoured that ICC plans to send BCB a large bonus and also several commemorative medals for this feat. So no matter what, it's the males who are getting all the attention. Do I have to mention respect? I mean a world record is a world record is a world record....

The media has of course said that while the girls should be congratulated, they know which way the audience's bread is buttered. Bangladeshis are not unhappy at seeing the men's national teams lose as they are the only ones playing and getting the entire spotlight. What makes them anxious is when others get the attention of the winning type. It's very understandable.

So the media has to make heroes out of the men. It's not their fault. Men consider themselves heroic and the media has to play along if they are to survive not just with clicks but adverts as well. So if men's sports achievements even if they are rather of the unconventional variety like world records for the quickest collapse in ODI, people love it. Just check the views on the net and you will see.

What experts say

In view of this national issue, we asked several experts or at least those who claimed to be so, what they thought of the situation. This included a psychologist, an ex- bureaucrat, an expert on religious ideas with a Ph.D. from FB, and a mob participant. They all agreed that the signs were very much there that the situation was indeed good for men. Cricket experts however refused to comment as they were too busy describing why India and Australia are afraid to play BD due to fear of losing.

In a special broadcast on the issue and covered by major TV channels the following quotes were covered.

The psychologists said the situation was a pre-planned attack on male hegemony, which was a precondition for sustaining the social structure. "If women keep winning so blatantly, the fragile male ego will be so severely damaged that they may fail to respond as procreators. That will result in a lack of births which will lead to a decreasing population in Bangladesh."

"Men are already scared to breed fearing that the child will be a girl and ultimately beat men in every game including "darya- bandha" which girls haven't started to play yet. It's a new crisis because if girls keep winning like this we may run short of men as many will want to become women then. This angle can't be ignored."

The ex-bureaucrat who is tipped to become the Special Assistant to the BCB was pragmatic, "We have to recognize the crisis and then act swiftly. If the men feel threatened anymore both production and procreation will suffer. So we have to reform the situation by taking adequate steps. The first step will be to stop the salary of the soccer girls which will teach them a good lesson. Next step will be to sue them as a group for the murder of Sirajuddowla. Then we can remand them and that should keep them quiet from threatening the men by beating stronger teams."

The faith expert however took an emotional position and said that while he has no idea which sports is being discussed, there is no question that all these are signs of "qayamat" (armageddon). Meanwhile, the last ODI loss by 99 runs (obviously the men) cheered fans greatly. They see the result as a great loss and ICC has congratulated them saying they are a symbol of glory for losers everywhere.

Cheers.
