April 6 marked the 1st death anniversary of late acclaimed actor Tele Samad, widely known for his outstanding acting as a comedian.

Abdus Samad, popularly known as Tele Samad, was born in Munshiganj on January 8, 1945. He adopted the name Tele Samad when he entered the film industry. Samad made his silver screen debut with Nazrul Islam's 'Kaar Bou' in 1973.

Samad studied at the then fine arts institute, now faculty of fine arts of Dhaka University. He had a passion for music. He was the music director of the film 'Mona Pagla'. Tele Samad's fame skyrocketed after Amzad Hossain's 'Nayanmoni' was released.

Samad had acted in around 600 films and lent his voice to playback songs for around 60 films. He had acted in films like 'Sujan Sakhi', 'Golapi Ekhan Trene', 'Paye Chalar Path', 'Nagardola', 'Matir Ghar', 'Natun Bou' and others.

Samad was the most sought-after actor throughout the 1970s and early 80s.

The last film he acted in was Animesh Aich's 'Zero Degree' in 2015. He died, aged 74, last year.
