UNB’s district correspondents’ conference 2017 on Nov 16

Thursday, November 16th, 2017

This year’s edition of United News of Bangladesh (UNB)’s district correspondents’ conference is slated to be held on November 16 at Cosmos Centre, with over a hundred journalists employed by UNB all across Bangladesh set to attend. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, Chief Information Commissioner of Bangladesh Information Commission Dr Golam Rahman, and former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddique will be present as Special Guests.

This annual feature has been a mainstay of UNB’s activities as it provides an opportunity for all the correspondents to come under one roof and network for better communication. Day-long discussions and workshops are organised to offer skill developments so that the newest media trends could be identified and implemented.

It has always been a philosophy of UNB to embrace the changes that are taking place in the global sphere of journalism. Their district correspondents currently use smartphones to promptly send news, photos and video stories from the spots. This was part of the transition to new media, which is now not only limited to the capital city of Dhaka, but implemented by the district correspondents all across the country.

In an effort to ensure the harmonious integration between mobile journalism and the digital space, the correspondents had to make that transition from traditional news-gathering to using smartphones for expedited news collection, and they have been more than willing. This has resulted in an increase of news collection, especially of the multimedia kind. Not only are those being appreciated by the subscribing media outlets, but also by all the relevant stakeholders.

The conference will feature similar workshops, interactive discussions and more, with a focus on how news can structured, catering to the reading trends and the contemporary demands of readers and subscribers.
