A game released in 2018 has become the 'talk' on the internet community for the past few weeks and who would have guessed? What seems to be like a simple whodunit formula has proven to be a fresh take that everyone cannot get enough of.

It is available everywhere, from the play store to Steam at a relatively cheap price. Starting off you are part of a space crew who are given simple tasks to finish alongside finding a sabotaging 'impostor'. A simple interface makes it easier for newcomers to grasp the concept right away.

One of the chief reasons it appeals to everybody is the aforementioned, 'simplicity'. It is not necessary to master a combo of moves or remember intertwining strategic plans to win rounds.

One of the 4-10 players connected in-game plays as an Impostor whose main goal is to kill everyone else. The remainder of the players, the 'crewmates', have to complete several tasks or find the Impostor(s) and vote them out. There can be more than one impostor in some matches.

After a crew member is killed, if another member stumbles upon the body, they can report it and trigger a meeting between everyone on board and deliberate the impostor through in-game chat. It is something that will intrigue everyone due to its nature of interactivity. Even if you end up getting killed you can complete the tasks to help your team although you cannot expose the impostor.

Its cross-platform playability gives it an edge over other casual games. Gamers are able to play on almost any OS available and to host matches locally. Online and private play is also available with up to 10 players.

Developed by Innersloth, 'Among Us' was released on June 15, 2018, on iOS, Android, and Steam on August 18, 2018.

The art style of the game is heavily reminiscent of early 2010s mobile games which a lot of the players may find aesthetically pleasing. What shot the game to recent stardom really is its demand in gameplay streaming platforms like Twitch where it has been played over several hundred hours. Tons of meme and gameplay videos are circulating around the internet exploding its sales off the chart.

A sequel to the game, 'Among Us 2' was announced by InnerSloth in August, addressing the sudden growth. According to the developers, 'it really was not created to be this big'.

"It's extremely hard to add more things without breaking existing things. Frankly, it's terrifying to add in more things because the game is so fragile. Fixing this would require recreating core sections of Among Us, then making sure everything else still works on top. It's actually even harder than just making a new game," said a 'devlog' by Innersloth announcing the sequel.

While that comes, interested ones can download 'Among Us' free right away from Play Store and App Store for now and even get it on Steam for the low price of $5.
