Nine local rock bands took part at an open air concert held at Army Stadium on March 7. The participating bands including Warfaze, Shironamhin, Chirkutt, Nemesis, Lalon, Shunno, Arbovirus, Cryptic Fate and Spandan 72 presented popular patriotic songs.
Young Bangla, an enterprise of Centre for Research and Information, orgainsed the show titled ‘Joy Bangla Concert’ marking 46th anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic speech delivered on March 7, 1971 at the then Race Course ground, now Suhrawardy Udyan. The concert began with a chorus rendition of the national anthem with participation of band members and the audience. The participating bands rendered several patriotic songs like “Joy Bangla Banglar Joy”, “Teer Hara Ei Dheu-er Sagor”, “Nongor Tolo Tolo”, “Banglar Banglar Joy”, “Banglar Ghare Ghare”, “Joy Bangla Banglar Joy”, “Teer Hara Ei Dheu-er Sagor”, “Cholo Bangladesh”, “Chokher Jol”, “Rangiye Dao Amar Swapnake”, “Soibona Janmabhumir Apoman”, “Ore Shonre Tora”, “Ekhoni Nambe Alo”, “Sona Diya Bandhaichhi Ghar” and more.
Warfaze is a hard rock band. The group consists of Palash Noor, Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu, Samir Hafiz, Shams Mansoor Ghani, and Naim Haque Roger. Multiple changes have taken place in membership since its founding in 1984.
Shironamhin is an independent band. Their music has a mixture of a wide variety of influences, including classical and folk traditions of Bengali music and rock music. They have infused traditional classical instruments such as sarod, esraj, mandira and dotara along with rock music.
Chirkutt is a pop fusion band, which was founded in 2002. The members are Sultana Sumi, Pinto Ghosh, Emon Chowdhury and Pavel Areen. The band performed in Austin, USA, India and Sri Lanka. The band has also to embark on a tour of Norway with Norwegian rockers Casa Murilo in 2013. They performed in Asian TV music show in September 2016.
