Film on Martyrdom of Intellectuals

The first documentary film on the killing of intellectuals in 1971 is being made with the government’s finances. Noted thespian and documentary filmmaker Kawser Chowdhury is directing the film which has been titled “Baddyabhumite Ekdin”. It will be screened for the first time on December 14. Recently the film’s shooting wrapped up in Rajshahi, reports a national daily. Major shootings were done in the mass graveyard of Rajshahi University. Bablaban graveyard located in Rajshahi city has also been incorporated into the Rajshahi segment of the documentary. The film will encompass scenes of a total of 20 to 22 districts of the country. Filming has already finished in Dhaka and its surroundings, Chittagong, Rangpur, Syedpur, reports the daily.

 

Interviews of lone survivor of the massacre in Rajshahi University, children of dead martyrs, present faculty members and student leaders of the university are featured in the documentary. Among them is Abdul Mannan Sarkar who woke up in the afternoon of October 21 in 1971 to find himself alive amongst the strewn bodies of intellects in the present day Rajshahi University mass graveyard. There was also Habibur Rahman of the martyred Chand Muhammad Rahman, Ahmed Safiuddin- the chief of publication of Rajshahi University during the Liberation War.
