Amar Bhasar Chalachitra film festival held at DU

The 17th edition of Amar Bhasar Chalachitra film festival organised by Dhaka University Film Society recently ended at the TSC (Teachers’ Student’s Centre) of Dhaka University.


DUFS (Dhaka University Film Society) has been organising Amar Bhasar Chalachitra film festival every year with the slogan ‘Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak’ since 2000 marking International Mother Language Day.


Films like Alor Michhil directed by Narayan Ghosh Mita, Haldaa directed by Tauquir Ahmed and Indian Bangla film Shobdo directed by Kaushik Ganguly were screened on the last day of the six-day festival, which featured 20 Bangla films from Bangladesh and West Bengal, India.


The concluding day’s event also featured an awards programme. Tauquir Ahmed’s Haldaa, which features struggles of the fishermen community of Halda River, received the Hiralal Sen Padak-1424 in the Best Film category.


Dhaka University vice chancellor professor Akhtaruzzaman, who was present at the closing ceremony as the chief guest, handed over the award to Tauquir Ahmed.


Filmmaker Fakhrul Arefeen Khan, film personality Rasel Hafiz and chairman of Jagannath University Film and Television department Jonaed Ahmed Halim, among others, were present at the closing ceremony. DUFS president Mir Rejwan Mahmud presided over the programme.
