Rahimafrooz aspires for sustainable CSR

One of the country’s leading industry giant, the Rahimafrooz Group does not only focus on business expansion, but also about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) proactively. Rahimafrooz operates in Automotive, Electronics, Energy and Retail sectors of the country. Considering their field of operation, their CSR activities focus on Community & Environment development. Since 1954, A C Abdur Rahim, founder of Rahimafrooz, has not only overcome the various challenges and obstacles facing them, but also prioritised his social commitments through business activities.
Rahimafrooz’s CSR front is its Rural Service Foundation (RSF), a Not for Profit initiative of the group. RSF is committed to work on all areas of environment, social and human development including community development, economic and business development, conventional and renewable energy. RSF has already been contributing to the society through various activities.
Till date, RSF has installed over 220,000 Solar Home systems (SHS) out of which 1,286 small SHSs have been installed for the lower income group by its 482 Unit Offices all over Bangladesh. Due to these SHSs, yearly 4000 Ton kerosene is saved which helps in protecting the environment. In addition 1000 biogas plants have been constructed to reduce the air pollution and to save the biomass and firewood. Moreover 4850 Improved Cooking Stoves (ICS) have been constructed in SIDR affected areas to reduce the in house pollution and to reduce the use of biomass. All of these projects primarily focused on an overall reduction of carbon emission & economic usage of fossil fuels as they are a scarce resource and preserving fossil fuels is vital for the future generations.
The Foundation also has funded education & environment projects. They have set up a free of cost quality residential education institute at Shahjahanpur, Bogra for children from ultra poor families who live in Monga areas. Currently 176 beneficiary families have been relieved from their expenditure against one of their children. A similar programme is also being run in Dhaka almost 500 underprivileged children is provided with free basic education, balanced nutritious food for physical development, medical support and service for a healthy living.
RSF runs 4 IT centers in Cox’s Bazaar, Chandpur, Satkhira & Jhenaidah. The purpose is the development of human resource in rural areas. Currently, RSF IT centres have trained 1791 young people from these areas along with 77 RSF staff. The centers introduce these rural youths to modern technology & also give them a basic understanding of the reporting system required for any corporate job.
Moreover, Rahimafrooz is also a signatory to UN Global Compact. It supports the ten principles of the Global Compact in respect to human rights, labour rights, the protection of the environment and anti-corruption.
