14-day group art exhibition begins at Gallery Cosmos

A 14-day group art exhibition on printmaking titled ‘Nature Quest’ began at Gallery Cosmos in the capital’s Mohakhali area on Friday evening.


Cosmos Atelier71 Printmaking Studio and Gallery Cosmos jointly organised the exhibition on the artworks derived from a six-day printmaking (Etching/Intaglio) workshop conducted by renowned Bangladeshi artist Rokeya Sultana and Uttam Kumar Basak, India from November 3-8 at Cosmos Atelier71, Cosmos Centre in the city’s Malibagh area.


Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh Alvaro De Salas formally inaugurated the art exhibition of 14 artists.


Eminent artist Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, internationally-acclaimed artist Monirul Islam, Prof Rokeya Sultana of Dhaka University’s Printmaking Department, Uttam Kumar Basak and avid art collector Durjoy Rahman Joy, among others, spoke at the inaugural ceremony held with Gallery Cosmos Director Tehmina Enayet in the chair.


Highlighting the outcome of the printmaking workshop, Alvaro De Salas Gimenez de Azcarate said such workshop will be a wonderful initiative for artists as art has so many possibilities for expression. “I’m very much marvelous….and express my thanks to artists,” he added.


About the role of artists, Monirul Islam said he never criticises artists and being an artist, he is not a critic at all.


Twenty-nine exclusive etching prints of Uttam Kumar Basak have also been put on display at the exhibition.


Cosmos Atelier71 Printmaking Studio also published a portfolio with selected artworks of every participant derived from the workshop. A total of 45 artworks are being displayed at the exhibition.


The exhibition will remain open from 11am to 8 pm every day till November 23 at Gallery Cosmos, Villa de Anjuman, House 115, Lane 6, New DOHS, Mohakhali.
